How to search for jobs if you do not know the Polish name of your profession

One of the most common reasons someone says “there are no jobs” is simple: they're searching in Ukrainian. Listings in Poland are written in Polish — searching “skladivnyk” finds nothing, while magazynier brings up hundreds of results.

The job title is also your pay

A second thing that translation hides: the same job title can cover very different requirements and pay. Within one field the difference can be twofold:

• Pomocnik / pracownik produkcji (helper / production worker) — entry-level, no experience or language needed, the lowest rate.
• Operator wózka widłowego (forklift operator) — requires UDT certification, noticeably higher rate.
• Spawacz TIG (TIG welder) — requires proven certificates, one of the highest rates among manual trades.

Words most often confused

• Magazynier (warehouse worker) — broader than “picker”: receiving, storing and issuing goods.
• Cieśla (carpenter, formwork on construction sites) is not the same as stolarz (joiner, furniture).
• Ślusarz — a metalworker/fitter in production, not a locksmith.
• Rozbieracz-wykrawacz (meat deboner) — tough conditions, but one of the best-paid jobs that needs no language.

How to search efficiently

Find the Polish name of your occupation, check the typical rate range in your category — and only then apply. That way you'll immediately see if you're being offered below market, and you'll be able to back up your expectations.
