Housing in the Czech Republic: dormitory or rental, prices and deposit

Most workers in the Czech Republic start with a dormitory (ubytovna). Here are price guidelines and what you need to do with your address.

Оренда квартир (II квартал 2026)

  • Small 1+kk apartment (≈30 m²): Prague ≈15 900 Kč, Brno ≈13 900 Kč, Pilsen ≈10 900 Kč, Olomouc ≈10 700 Kč, Ostrava ≈9 600 Kč per month.
  • 2+kk apartment (≈55 m²): Prague ≈24 900 Kč, Brno ≈20 100 Kč, Pilsen, Ostrava and Olomouc — ≈15 400–15 800 Kč.

Dormitory (ubytovna)

Prices are set by each dormitory individually. For example, in one of the dormitories in Brno, a bed in a multi-bed room costs 5 500 Kč, in a double room — 6 500 Kč per month per person. In Prague, a long-term hostel bed is ≈150–195 Kč per night. Always ask what is included in the price and whether there is a city tax.

Deposit

When renting an apartment the deposit along with the contractual penalty cannot exceed 3 months' rent; it is returned after the lease ends. Housing costs can only be deducted from your salary by written agreement.

Don't forget about your address: notify the Ministry of the Interior about a move (lasting more than 15 days) within 3 working days. If your address is canceled, temporary protection expires after 90 days at a "government address".
