How much can be deducted
- From minimum wage for housing — no more than 25% (for 40 hours and a rate of 14.99 € — up to 149.90 € per week), only for certified housing and with your written consent.
- In agencies under the ABU agreement, the price is calculated using a point system: from 127,88 € before 159.85 € per week in 2026–2027. The price includes utilities, bedding, and insurance; it does not include food and local taxes.
- If the agency has not yet switched to this system, the limit is 119.92 € per week.
Minimum living conditions
- at least 12 m² per person in standard housing;
- 1 toilet and 1 shower per 8 people;

- smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
When the job has ended
- After the end of the contract, you have 4 weeks, to leave.
- Housing is paid weekly — paying in advance cannot be demanded.
- Money cannot be taken from someone else for a bed you are not occupying.
Standard rent
A room for rent costs an average of ≈660 € per month across the country (Rotterdam ≈710 €, Groningen ≈580 €). In large cities, it is more expensive. If you live there for more than 4 months, register with your address at the municipality within 5 days.
What the government is deciding: starting July 1, 2028, housing deductions from the minimum wage are proposed to be completely banned. This is currently a plan, not a law.
