Ukrainians with temporary protection in Slovakia can work without a permit. Starting in 2026, new rules have been introduced, along with a transition year after protection ends.
Starting July 15, 2026, a transitional regime applies: after protection ends, you can still work for 1 year under the same conditions. Those who previously worked for at least 6 months and continue working can apply for a work-based residence permit.
You are included in public health insurance if you work for a Slovak employer and earn no less than the minimum wage (915 € in 2026). On your first day of work, tell your employer which insurance company you are insured with. Without insurance — emergency care only.
