Agencies in Slovakia: how to check and where to turn

Slovak law explicitly prohibits agencies and intermediaries from charging fees to the worker. How to check an agency and where to contact.

How to check an agency

A temporary employment agency works only with a permit. The current list of licensed agencies and the register of paid intermediaries is published by the labor office ÚPSVaR on its website.

What is prohibited

  • Charging you fees — both by the agency and the intermediary. Only the client employer can pay.
  • Paying less than a comparable employee of the client company; the client must pay the difference.
  • Arbitrarily withholding wages or restricting how you dispose of them.
  • Assignment to a single client — up to 24 months.
Working without a written contract and registration in social insurance before the first day of work — this is illegal work. Demand your copy of the contract.
