Status
- Lithuania has extended temporary protection until March 4, 2027 and issues digital residence permits for 12 months; they are renewed online annually, free of charge.
- The EU has already decided to extend protection until March 4, 2028. Lithuania must formalize this with its own decision — follow the Migration Department announcements.
- For new applicants, the EU has added a condition regarding military service; it does not affect those who already have protection.
Work
- Work permit with temporary protection not required. You can work from the day you apply for the digital permit.
- Knowledge of the Lithuanian language is not required for the duration of the protection.
- The employer must notify social security (Sodra) of your employment at least 1 working day before starting work and familiarize you with the terms and safety rules against your signature before your first shift.
- The contract must be in writing, in two copies. Mandatory conditions: what you do, how much you are paid, and where you work.
Banking and healthcare
Banks open accounts for Ukrainians with temporary protection free of charge. With official employment, a health insurance contribution is withheld from your salary — giving you access to regular healthcare. Emergency care is free for everyone with temporary protection.
Without temporary protection working in Lithuania is only possible after obtaining a residence permit, which is a separate procedure. Visa-free entry does not grant the right to work.
