The agency must be on the VDI list
Under a temporary work contract, the employer can only be a company from the official list of the State Labour Inspectorate (VDI). Every year by July 15, the agency confirms that it meets the requirements: no tax or Sodra debts, no wage arrears, and the director has no convictions for human trafficking or forced labor.
Your rights at the agency
- You are issued a job assignment at least 2 working days in advance; you can refuse a specific assignment within 1 working day.
- Pay is not lower than that of the client's employee in the same position.
- Between assignments — no more than 5 consecutive unpaid working days once a month; for the remaining days — at least minimum wage.
- A temporary work contract together with subsequent ones — no longer than 3 years.
Signs of exploitation
- asking to hand over your passport or documents;
- promising a "too good" job; demanding money "for a place" or "for a visa";
- officially minimum wage, the rest "under the table";
- not paying what was promised, pressuring to "work off a debt", restricting movement.
Always keep your documents with you. Consider any demand for payment before departure or employment a red flag.
