Why a "salary of 5000" doesn't mean anything yet
The question "how much do they pay" almost always has a follow-up that gets forgotten: how much of it will you keep. Two identical salaries yield completely different savings if in one case housing is paid by the employer, and in the other you rent a room in Warszawa.
Therefore, when choosing a job offer, look not at the hourly rate itself, but at the combination of rate + housing + city. An offer with a slightly lower rate, but free housing, often leaves you with more net income at the end of the month.
What expenses consist of
Housing — the biggest expense item. A bed space is cheaper than a room, a room is cheaper than an apartment; sharing with someone is more cost-effective.
Food — depends on whether you cook yourself or buy ready-made meals.
Transport — a monthly transit pass is usually cheaper than single tickets.
Mobile & other — phone, internet, household essentials, clothing.
FAQ
How much do people usually manage to save?
It is very individual, but the rule of thumb is simple: if housing is paid by the employer, savings are usually significantly higher. Calculate both options in the calculator — the difference will be clear.
I only know the gross amount — what should I enter?
First calculate the net amount in the gross↔net calculator, and then enter the resulting amount here.
Should I include overtime?
Yes, if it is regular — add it to your net income. You can calculate the extra pay in the overtime calculator.
